In this project, it is expected to design an  autonomous personal

transport vehicle running on electric energy and able to accomadate 2 passengers and their personal belongings.

Major concerns of the project:

  • Innovative ideas for a fresh look at transportation

  • Designing new user experiences

  • Appropriate use of technology and its relation to design

Concept Definition

Since autonomous vehicle technology is a technology not previously experienced, there is a serious confidence problem   between people and autonomous vehicles.

For this reason, the solution that must be present in any autonomous vehicle concept to be developed is to solve the problem of trust between the user and the autonomous vehicle.

In this way, the scenario developed within the framework of the concept can be easily adapted to the user.

Confidence Problem

Variables to be considered in vehicle design for people to trust autonomous vehicles.

PROBLEM DEFINITION

Preferred Transportation Hours in Daily Life

In big cities the day starts very early to work or school. Early waking and having to rush breakfast because of the urgency to grow is not suitable for the circadian rhythm. Such a life leads to an increase in the level of stress.

People often have to spend the morning and evening hours in their cars. In the morning the hours of 08:00-10:00 and in the evening 18:00-20:00 hours are the busiest hours of driving.

In order to stay at a healthy ideal weight, eating time is important.

The ideal time for breakfast is between 08:00 and 09:00 in the morning. It is also suitable for lunch at 12.30-13.00, especially at 12.38. The ideal time for dinner is between 18:00 and 18:30, especially 18:14.

This is evidenced by the fact that in the time period when people should eat food for a healthy diet, people are usually transported in their vehicles.

Excerpts From Interview

According to the inferences made from user interviews, the problems in the vehicle are as follows:

  • Sitting on the seating for a very long time

  • Food storage needs

  • Clothes storage need

  • Difficulty in accessing digital documents

INTERIOR DESIGN

Front Side Interior Design

On the dashboard, there are two screens where passengers can check the vehicle, reach the information they need to reach about the job, and watch the things and spend their leisure time.

To stop the vehicle in an emergency, there is an emergency button at equal distance to the passengers in the middle of the dashboard.

During the interviews, it was determined that the users talked on the phone for a long time due to work. A telephone stand is designed and positioned on the dashboard.

Ventilation is one of the most important points to be taken into consideration since the food will be prepared and eaten in the car. The dashboard has a ventilation duct extending all the way through. This channel gives air from the middle part and air from the side parts.

There is also ventilation ducts at the bottom of the dashboadr for efficient ventilation.

When the eating mode is activated the surface under the dashboard moves and a table is formed.

Back Side Interior Design

The covers of the storage areas are designed in a sliding manner. This prevents the covers from opening when the vehicle makes sudden movements.

The garbage portion is the most discrete located unit in the rear region of the vehicle. The reason for this is to increase the distance between the trash and the food. It is also located near the vehicle door to facilitate garbage replacement.

Areas for the user's problems are designed at the back of the vehicle. These are personal items / clothes storage space. Also, there are  food storage, heating, and refrigeration units to solve the eating need.

The passenger commands from the control panel in the seat to move  to the rear of the vehicle. The seat moves on the rail and carries the  passenger to the rear. Theposition of the units at the back is designed with the idea that the person can easily reach every area from the seat.

Seat Design

The seat design is designed for people who willstay in the vehicle for a long time. Body and head support have been added for the driver to havea comfortable experience for a long time.

The 'Relaxing Mode' is designed on the seat tomeet the passenger's need for rest.

Seat Control Interface Design

In the designed interface, the primary function is the control of the seat rotation around itself. Since there are two different areas where the passenger should be in the vehicle, the seat must move.

The position of the seat in the vehicle is presented in two different options.

Another function of the panel is determining the back angle of the seat. The relaxing mode of the seat is also controlled from this panel. The 'Relaxing Mode' is designed on the seat tomeet the passenger's need for rest.

EXTERIOR DESIGN

It is important to solve the problem of trust between the vehicle and the human when making design decisions in the external form of the vehicle. The forms were chosen according to the researches.

8 Exterior Design.jpg

The back of the vehicle is designed higher than the front. It is necessary to have more volume at the back of the vehicle due to the operations on  the back of the vehicle and due to the equipment. Therefore, in this area is intended to create more space.
